Economy and Jobs

I'm working to improve jobs and the economy to promote economic prosperity and encourage business and investment in LD29 and Arizona. At the capitol I am a friend of business and middle-class families. I am endorsed by Arizona business and labor organizations. We must build a fair and prosperous economy that rewards hard work, not just big corporations and the rich.

Border and Immigration

In the State House, I will push the federal government for tough immigration reform to fix our broken US immigration system and control the international border. Immigrants must be required to pay back taxes and a fine, learn English, and pass criminal background checks on the path to legalization.

Water and Planning

I serve on the Arizona House Water and Energy Committee. Arizona needs more incentives for conservation and water harvesting, especially in new construction. My family and I lead by example with rainwater harvesting at our home. We have an ethical and economic responsibility to ensure our children and grandchildren have a sustainable clean water supply.

Kids and Education

I have a 100% pro-education voting record at the capitol. With a child in TUSD, I am very involved in schools. We must listen to teachers. I will stand ground to keep state bureaucrats out of local schools’ business. The legislature must better support universities and community colleges as investments in our economy and future. Arizona should improve our State Lands system to better serve education and conservation. I have the endorsement of the Arizona Education Association and other education advocates.

Public Safety

As a former south side neighborhood President, I’ve worked cooperatively with police for years to fight crime. I served on the Arizona House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee. I am endorsed by Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, firefighters and other public safety organizations.

Election Integrity

We must ensure everyone eligible can register and vote without hassle, that every vote counts and we can trust the outcome of all elections.

Transportation

We need some new roads, but we cannot build our way out of bad traffic with only roads. We need more transit options. I ride a bike, drive an efficient biodiesel powered vehicle and support clean cars & fuels. To improve safety, we must better protect pedestrians and cyclists. I will work with ADoT, the feds and railroad to pursue Tucson-Phoenix commuter rail. I also back a metro-Tucson commuter rail system, from northwest-downtown-southeast, and also south to Green Valley and Nogales.

Health Care

We must cover as many people as possible, especially at-risk children, and protect important health care access. I am endorsed by the Arizona Nurses Association, Planned Parenthood, Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association and other health organizations.

Equal Rights and Civil Liberties

The state must respect and protect the rights of all, including the LGBT community. I support policies aimed at stopping racism, sexism and other discrimination. Arizona should always respect the Bill of Rights, protect privacy rights and responsible individual freedoms. I have a good NRA rating.

Energy and Environment

We need real energy independence by helping home and business owners go solar and use small wind. My family and I lead by example by producing solar power and hot water on our rooftop at home, helping make Tucson the top region for clean energy. Scientists say global warming climate change is making Arizona hotter and drier. We must clean up pollution that harms our health and economy. As an ecologist and sportsman, I work to protect wildlife and scenic landscapes. The Arizona League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club and many others endorse me.

Local Control

I favor local control. The state must better respect local city and county rights, and stop preempting local governments from protecting citizens. The Arizona League of Cities and Towns has awarded me as a 'friend'.
